In 2017, Wei Ling Thong earned the prestigious ABRSM International Undergraduate Scholarship. She achieved a Master of Music in Performance from the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2022 and received a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in 2021.
Wei Ling embarked on her musical journey at the age of six, focusing on violin education. Since then, she has become a highly sought-after violinist in Singapore and beyond. At 18, she made her solo debut at the Esplanade Concert Hall with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO), earning praise from The Straits Times for her exceptional performance.
Her musical pursuits have taken her worldwide, representing Singapore at various international events and performing with distinguished orchestras such as the Hallé Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Wei Ling has showcased her solo talent for the Hungarian and Brazilian Embassies in London and graced stages at notable institutions globally.
Wei Ling’s dedication has resulted in numerous accolades and a thriving career. She has contributed to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, participated in the Singapore Symphony Children Choirs Experience Day, and contributed to the Young Musician’s Foundation Orchestra. Notable achievements include winning the 2016 SNYO Concerto Competition, holding the position of 2nd Violin Principal with the SNYO in 2015-2016, and receiving an Excellence Award at the Youth Division of the Raffles International Violin Competition.
Featured on a Mediacorp Channel 5 program, ‘On the Red Dot – Youth by Youth,’ Wei Ling shared her journey as a young Singaporean pursuing musical dreams. In addition to her solo performances, she is a passionate chamber musician with a collaborative spirit. Wei Ling’s teaching approach, shaped by pedagogy training at the RNCM Young Strings and Guildhall Junior School, emphasizes the unique development of each child, focusing on holistic well-being and personal growth. She imparts her knowledge to the next generation, fostering their growth as artists.
